The Indian Meteorological Department has issued red alerts for heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while Delhi has been placed under a yellow alert.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) raised red alerts for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Thursday, signalling the likelihood of intense and potentially hazardous rainfall in the coming hours. A red alert denotes the highest level of warning, urging residents to stay indoors, avoid travel on vulnerable roads, and follow instructions from local authorities.
Simultaneously, the capital city of Delhi was placed under a yellow alert, indicating moderate to heavy rain that could cause localized flooding and traffic disruptions. The IMD has forecasted accumulations of up to 50 mm in the affected regions before midnight.
State disaster management teams in both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have mobilised emergency response units, pre‑positioned sandbags, and set up helplines for distress calls. Residents have been advised to secure loose objects, clear drainage channels, and keep emergency kits ready.
Authorities in Delhi have warned commuters of possible water‑logged streets and have urged the public to use alternate routes. The alerts will be reviewed periodically and may be upgraded if conditions worsen.
