The Reserve Bank of India has outlined fresh guidelines aimed at strengthening safeguards against online scams and frauds.
New Delhi – The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a set of recommendations intended to tighten security across digital payment channels. In a recent communication, the central bank urged banks, payment service providers and fintech firms to adopt enhanced authentication protocols and to increase consumer awareness about phishing and other online scams.
The RBI highlighted the growing incidence of digital frauds and emphasized that stronger safeguards are essential to maintain confidence in the country's payment ecosystem. It also called for regular monitoring of transaction patterns and faster reporting mechanisms to detect suspicious activity.
While the guidelines are advisory, the central bank signalled that compliance will be closely monitored and that non‑adherence could attract regulatory scrutiny. Stakeholders are expected to incorporate the measures in their operational frameworks over the coming weeks.
