In response to recent cyber attacks, the Reserve Bank of India has directed all commercial banks to conduct a special cybersecurity audit to protect customers' fixed deposits and savings accounts.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a directive for every commercial bank in the country to carry out a dedicated cybersecurity audit. The move comes after a series of recent cyber‑attacks targeting the banking sector, raising concerns over the safety of customers' fixed deposits (FDs) and savings accounts.

Banks are required to assess their digital infrastructure, test vulnerability controls, and verify that data protection mechanisms meet the RBI’s security standards. The audit will focus on safeguarding transaction data, authentication processes, and the integrity of account information.

The RBI emphasized that the audit aims to reinforce customer confidence by ensuring that depositors' funds remain secure against unauthorized access or fraud. Banks are expected to submit audit reports to the central bank within a stipulated timeframe.

By proactively addressing potential cyber threats, the central bank seeks to prevent future breaches and maintain stability in the banking system, thereby protecting the interests of millions of depositors across India.
