Rajasthan MLA Ravindra Singh Bhatia began a public outreach from Barmer, urging the central government to extend the validity of EWS certificates and recognize state‑issued certificates nationwide.
Ravindra Singh Bhatia, a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, kicked off a public outreach tour in Barmer on Monday, focusing on the need to simplify the rules governing the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservation. The MLA addressed a gathering of local residents, community leaders and party workers, outlining his demand for clearer and more uniform guidelines.
Bhatia highlighted two specific reforms: first, extending the period for which an EWS certificate remains valid, and second, ensuring that certificates issued by state authorities are accepted by central agencies without additional verification. He argued that the current system creates uncertainty for beneficiaries and hampers the effective implementation of the reservation policy.
The EWS reservation, introduced in 2019, reserves 10% of seats in educational institutions and government jobs for economically disadvantaged individuals who do not fall under existing caste‑based categories. Since its inception, several states have issued certificates, but inconsistencies in validity periods and recognition have led to confusion among applicants. Bhatia’s campaign seeks to address these gaps by lobbying the Union government for uniform standards.
The MLA indicated that the Barmer outreach is the first stop of a broader state‑wide tour aimed at gathering public feedback and building consensus among political stakeholders. He plans to meet senior officials in Jaipur later this week to present the collected concerns and propose legislative amendments.
