Indian Railways has decided to convert the weekly special train between Lucknow’s Rani Kamalapati and Agartala into a regular express service, aiming to improve long‑distance travel for passengers across Madhya Pradesh and the Northeast.

Indian Railways announced today that the weekly special train running between Lucknow’s Rani Kamalapati station and Agartala will be upgraded to a regular express service. The change is expected to increase the frequency of the train and provide more reliable connectivity for passengers travelling between the heartland and the Northeast.

The Rani Kamalapati‑Agartala route covers a distance of approximately 1,500 kilometres, linking the capital of Madhya Pradesh with the capital of Tripura. By converting the service to a regular express, the railway aims to reduce travel time and improve scheduling for long‑distance travelers.

Passengers travelling for business, education or family visits will benefit from the new timetable, which is expected to offer more convenient departure and arrival times. The move also aligns with the government’s broader strategy to enhance rail connectivity across the country.

Railway officials said the decision follows a review of passenger demand and operational feasibility, and the new service will be introduced in the coming months after necessary adjustments to rolling stock and crew allocation.
