In a recent interview, actor Ranbir Kapoor cautioned that the push for a single national cinema may marginalise regional film industries.
Ranbir Kapoor, a leading Bollywood star, told ThePrint that the notion of a unified national cinema overlooks India’s linguistic and cultural plurality.
He emphasized that vibrant regional industries – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi and others – create content rooted in local stories and traditions, and that a homogenised approach could dilute this richness.
Kapoor’s remarks arrive amid ongoing debates about the dominance of Hindi‑language films on streaming platforms and calls for policy measures to bolster regional productions.
Industry observers note that while cross‑regional collaborations are on the rise, safeguarding distinct regional voices remains essential for an inclusive Indian cinema.
