The Rajpurohit community in Sirhohi district has demanded fair representation from the BJP ahead of the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections and warned it will contest as independents if denied tickets.
The Rajpurohit community in Rajasthan's Sirhohi district has formally approached the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seeking adequate political representation ahead of the scheduled Panchayati Raj elections. Community leaders argue that their demographic weight in the district warrants a proportionate share of party tickets for local bodies.
In a statement released to local media, the Rajpurohit representatives said that failure to secure nominations would compel them to field candidates as independents, thereby fragmenting the BJP's traditional vote base in the region. The community's stance reflects growing discontent among caste groups that feel sidelined in candidate selection processes.
The BJP, which currently holds a strong foothold in Rajasthan's rural constituencies, has not publicly responded to the demand. Election officials have confirmed that the Panchayat polls are set to commence later this year, with nominations expected to close in the coming weeks. The Rajpurohit community's ultimatum adds a new variable to the electoral calculations for both the party and its rivals.
Political analysts note that independent candidatures from organized communities can influence outcomes in tightly contested wards, potentially altering the balance of power in local governance structures. The upcoming elections will test whether the BJP accommodates the community's request or faces a splintered vote.
