The Rajasthan government issued new guidelines for Diwali, limiting the use of fireworks to three hours per day in five NCR districts and permitting only green crackers with QR codes.

The state government of Rajasthan released a set of guidelines aimed at curbing air pollution during the Diwali festival. The measures target the widespread use of firecrackers, which typically spikes particulate matter levels across the region.

Under the new rules, residents of five districts in the National Capital Region will be allowed to light fireworks for only three hours each day, and this window will be available on two consecutive days surrounding Diwali. Only “green” fireworks that carry a QR code confirming compliance with emission standards may be used.

The guidelines also ban the sale of any firecracker lacking a QR code and prohibit online sales of fireworks altogether. Enforcement agencies have been instructed to conduct spot checks and impose penalties on violators.

Officials said the restrictions are expected to significantly reduce particulate pollution and improve air quality during the festive period.
