Rajasthan’s Special Operations Group arrested four individuals accused of facilitating medical internships using forged FMGE certificates, part of a probe that has identified over 100 suspects.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan carried out coordinated raids after receiving intelligence about a network that was issuing counterfeit Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) certificates to medical graduates. The operation resulted in the arrest of four persons alleged to have orchestrated the scheme, which allowed candidates to obtain internships and registration without meeting the required qualifications.
Investigators found that each forged certificate was sold for sums ranging between INR 20 lakh and INR 30 lakh. The high price reflected the demand among aspirants seeking to bypass the legitimate FMGE process, which is mandatory for Indian doctors who have studied abroad.
The four detainees are being interrogated, and the probe has so far flagged more than 100 individuals as suspects, including intermediaries who facilitated payments and candidates who attempted to use the fake documents. Authorities said the crackdown will continue until the entire racket is dismantled.
The FMGE is a licensure exam that ensures overseas medical graduates meet Indian standards before practicing. Misuse of counterfeit certificates threatens patient safety and undermines the credibility of medical institutions, prompting the SOG to issue a warning to hospitals and colleges to verify credentials rigorously.
Legal proceedings are pending, and the SOG has pledged further action against anyone found complicit in the fraud.
