On 28 October, Rajasthan conducted the second phase of its Panchayati Raj elections, with Khairabad witnessing the highest voter turnout among the 22 districts.
On Thursday, 28 October, voters across Rajasthan turned out to elect members of district councils and panchayat samitis in the second phase of the state’s Panchayati Raj elections. The election covers 352 wards of 22 district councils and 2,197 wards of 124 panchayat samitis.
In the tally released by the Election Commission, Khairabad emerged as the district with the highest voter turnout, while Gogunda recorded the lowest. The results reflect the varied engagement levels across the state’s rural electorate.
The elections are part of Rajasthan’s effort to strengthen local governance and ensure greater community participation in decision‑making. The outcomes will shape the composition of local bodies that oversee development projects and public services at the grassroots level.
Observers noted that the high participation in Khairabad could influence the political dynamics in the region, as parties vie for control of the district council seats. The low turnout in Gogunda raises concerns about voter apathy and the need for targeted outreach in rural areas.
The Election Commission will soon announce the final results, which will determine the leadership of district councils and panchayat samitis for the next term.
