Rajasthan Panchayat, Civic Body Polls Delayed Beyond July 31 Due to OBC Quota

Panchayat and urban local body elections in Rajasthan are unlikely to be held by the July 31 deadline set by the Rajasthan High Court. The State Election Commission cited the completion of the reservation process as a prerequisite for announcing the election schedule.

Elections for panchayats and urban local bodies in Rajasthan face a delay, extending beyond the July 31 deadline stipulated by the Rajasthan High Court. The State Election Commission has indicated that the announcement of the election schedule is contingent upon the finalization of the reservation process.

This deferral stems from issues related to the reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC). The commission has stated that the election program can only be formulated and released once the reservation procedures are duly completed.

The High Court's directive had aimed for the elections to be concluded by the end of July, but the ongoing reservation process has now made this timeline unfeasible, pushing the elections further into the future.
