The Rajasthan Medical Council (RMC) has revoked the registration of a doctor who had previously been flagged for violations of the Prevention of Cruelty to Women and Children (PCPNDT) Act. The decision follows a review of the doctor’s history sheet, which documented multiple infractions related to the Act’s stringent record‑keeping and abortion‑prohibition provisions.
Under the PCPNDT Act, medical practitioners must maintain detailed records of all abortions and are prohibited from performing illegal abortions. The RMC’s investigation found that the doctor had repeatedly failed to keep proper records and had been involved in illegal abortion procedures.
As a result of these breaches, the council has declared the doctor’s registration void, effectively barring the individual from practicing medicine within the state. The revocation also opens the possibility of criminal prosecution under the PCPNDT Act.
