The Rajasthan High Court scolded UCO Bank for revoking a 1,000‑km transfer of a manager who cares for his 75% disabled brother suffering from thalassemia, emphasizing strict adherence to policy.

The Rajasthan High Court issued a stern admonition to UCO Bank after the bank cancelled a long‑distance transfer of a senior manager. The manager, who looks after his brother diagnosed with thalassemia and classified as 75% disabled, had been posted nearly 1,000 kilometres away.

The court noted that the bank’s decision violated established employment policies that protect employees with caregiving responsibilities. It reminded the bank that such policies must be applied uniformly and without discrimination.

By revoking the transfer, the bank not only disrupted the employee’s professional trajectory but also jeopardised the essential care required for his brother’s chronic condition. The judgment underscores the judiciary’s role in enforcing labour‑friendly norms in the banking sector.

The High Court directed the bank to reinstate the manager’s original posting and to ensure future compliance with the relevant guidelines, signalling a clear message to other institutions about the importance of upholding employee rights.
