Jaipur, Rajasthan – Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma addressed a gathering at the Birla Auditorium on Thursday, unveiling a new government initiative that aims to build a public library in each of the state's villages. The scheme, presented as part of the broader effort to improve rural education and literacy, will be funded through the state budget and coordinated with local panchayats.
The CM emphasized that access to books and digital resources will bridge the information gap between urban and rural areas. He outlined a phased rollout, beginning with pilot projects in selected districts, followed by statewide implementation within the next two years.
Officials said the libraries will be equipped with basic reading material, computers with internet connectivity, and will serve as community hubs for educational programs. The announcement aligns with Rajasthan's ongoing focus on educational infrastructure and is expected to create employment opportunities for librarians and support staff in rural regions.
Stakeholders, including teachers and civil society groups, welcomed the move, noting its potential to boost literacy rates and provide students with supplementary learning resources beyond school hours.
