The state government has cleared ₹1,274.26 crore for the Indira Gandhi Canal scheme, allowing four escape reservoirs that will store 8,746 MCFT of water for farmers.
Rajasthan's government has granted administrative and financial approval of ₹1,274.26 crore for the Indira Gandhi Canal project, a major irrigation initiative aimed at enhancing water availability in the arid regions of the state.
Under the approved plan, four escape reservoirs will be constructed. Collectively, these reservoirs are designed to hold about 8,746 million cubic feet (MCFT) of water, providing a buffer against seasonal shortfalls.
The additional storage is expected to improve irrigation reliability for farmers, helping to stabilize crop yields and reduce dependence on erratic monsoon rains.
State officials indicated that the funding will be allocated for detailed design, land acquisition and the initial phases of construction, with further updates to follow as the project progresses.
