Rainfall Divide in Chhattisgarh: 73% of Areas Record Surplus, 40% Record Deficit

According to the latest monsoon assessment released by the India Meteorological Department and reported by The Times of India, Chhattisgarh experienced a pronounced split in rainfall distribution during the current season. The assessment indicates that about 73 per cent of the state's districts recorded rainfall above the long‑term average, with some areas receiving up to 30 per cent more precipitation than expected. Conversely, roughly 40 per cent of districts fell short of the average, registering deficits of up to 20 per cent. The surplus in the eastern and central districts has boosted water levels in reservoirs and aided sowing of kharif crops, whereas the deficit in the western belt has raised concerns among farmers about crop stress and may prompt the state government to consider emergency irrigation measures. State officials have urged the public to conserve water and have warned that the uneven monsoon could affect overall agricultural output, which contributes around 30 per cent to the state's GDP.
