Rain forced the India vs New Zealand cricket match in Wellington to be abandoned, leaving the Indian squad indoors while the New Zealand team awaited a rescheduled game.
The India vs New Zealand cricket encounter scheduled in Wellington was abandoned after heavy rain began to fall in the capital of New Zealand. The match, which was set to be played at the Basin Reserve, was called off at the start of the second day's play due to unsafe pitch conditions and a wet outfield.
India’s squad, led by captain Rohit Sharma, had already taken the field when the weather report warned of a downpour. The match officials decided to suspend play for the safety of the players and the integrity of the game.
New Zealand’s captain, Kane Williamson, expressed disappointment but acknowledged the decision was necessary. The series will now be rescheduled, with the next match likely to take place in a different venue.
The rain‑induced postponement adds to the uncertainty of the series, which is now expected to be played over a compressed schedule once the weather clears.
