Railway Minister Announces Delhi‑Patna Bullet Train Could Cut Travel to 4.5 Hours

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the upcoming high‑speed rail link between Delhi and Patna is expected to reduce the journey time to about four and a half hours, ahead of the Diwali‑Chhath season.
Delhi's Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw briefed the media on the progress of the Delhi‑Patna high‑speed rail corridor, stating that the new bullet train service is projected to cover the 500‑kilometre stretch in roughly four and a half hours. The announcement came as the nation prepares for the festive Diwali and Chhath celebrations, underscoring the government's push to enhance inter‑city connectivity.
The minister indicated that the project, part of the broader National High Speed Rail Network, is on track for commercial operation by the end of 2027. Construction of the dedicated tracks, signalling systems and stations at key nodes is advancing, with the final alignment expected to be completed within the next 18 months.
If realised, the reduced travel time will cut the current 12‑hour journey by more than half, offering a faster alternative for business travelers, tourists and pilgrims traveling between the capital and Bihar's major city. Officials anticipate a boost to regional trade, tourism and employment as the corridor integrates with existing rail and road networks.
The ministry also highlighted that the bullet train will feature modern amenities, including Wi‑Fi, ergonomic seating and advanced safety features, aligning with international standards for high‑speed rail. Stakeholders are monitoring the project's progress closely, given its potential to set a benchmark for future high‑speed corridors across India.
