Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Bihar administration of suppressing dissent during recent BPSC protests, saying the issue extends beyond the use of batons.
Bihar's public service commission (BPSC) staff staged protests earlier this week, demanding timely recruitment and addressing grievances over delayed appointments. The demonstrations, which gathered a sizable number of employees, were met with police presence and reports of baton use against demonstrators.
Speaking at a press briefing in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi condemned the state government's response, asserting that the controversy "doesn't stop with batons" and that the core issues of transparency and accountability remain unaddressed. He urged the Bihar administration to engage with the aggrieved staff rather than resorting to force.
The opposition leader's remarks come ahead of the upcoming state assembly session, where the BPSC issue is expected to feature in debates. As of now, the Bihar government has not issued an official statement responding to Gandhi's criticism.
