Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that the upcoming delimitation exercise is intended to punish Tamil Nadu and reduce its representation in the Lok Sabha.

Rahul Gandhi, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress, asserted that the forthcoming delimitation process is being used to penalise Tamil Nadu and diminish its influence in the Lok Sabha.

He voiced this concern during a press interaction in New Delhi, warning that the redrawing of constituency boundaries after the 2026 census could lead to a lower seat share for the state.

Delimitation, mandated by the Constitution to reflect population shifts, is intended to ensure equitable representation, but Gandhi cautioned that political considerations might skew the outcome.

The Congress party has called for a transparent, data‑driven approach and urged the Election Commission to safeguard Tamil Nadu’s demographic growth in the final seat allocation.

As of now, neither the central government nor the Election Commission has issued a formal response to Gandhi’s remarks.
