Former India captain Rahul Dravid said that nurturing players who can perform across formats, citing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, is essential for the growth of Test cricket.
Former Indian batting great Rahul Dravid highlighted the importance of developing cricketers who can contribute in all three formats, emphasizing that such versatility is key to revitalising Test cricket in the country. He made the remarks during a recent interview where he discussed the future pathway for India’s longest format.
Dravid argued that the modern game demands players who can adapt their techniques and temperament from the fast pace of limited‑overs cricket to the endurance required in Tests. According to him, a steady supply of all‑format talent will deepen the pool of specialists and raise the overall standard of the Test side.
Citing the emerging fast‑bowler Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as an example, Dravid noted the youngster’s ability to adjust his line, length and mindset across formats. While Sooryavanshi is still early in his career, Dravid believes his development could illustrate the model the Board should nurture.
The former captain concluded by urging selectors and coaches to give promising all‑format players more exposure in the longest format, arguing that this strategic focus will help India sustain its dominance in Test cricket over the long term.
