Security forces of the Rashtriya Awaaz Force and the Central Reserve Police Force staged a flag march along the disputed Assam-Meghalaya border as protests continued and tourist activities were disrupted.

New Delhi - On Monday, units of the Rashtriya Awaaz Force (RAF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) carried out a coordinated flag march along the contested stretch of the Assam-Meghalaya border. The display, intended to assert administrative control, was conducted amid a backdrop of local protests that have been simmering since the boundary dispute resurfaced.

Residents of villages on both sides of the line gathered to voice opposition to the perceived encroachment, chanting slogans and blocking access roads. The demonstrations have led to intermittent closures of nearby tourist spots, affecting travel plans for visitors to the region's hill stations and wildlife sanctuaries.

Law enforcement officials reported that the march proceeded without major incidents, though a few minor scuffles were reported near the border outposts. Both RAF and CRPF personnel were equipped with standard riot gear and carried national flags as a symbolic gesture of unity.

State authorities from Assam and Meghalaya have been in talks to de‑escalate the situation, but no definitive resolution has been reached. Meanwhile, the tourism department has advised travelers to monitor local advisories before planning trips to the affected areas.

The flag march underscores the heightened sensitivity of inter‑state border issues in the Northeast, where historical claims and local sentiments often intersect with security considerations.
