A 45‑year‑old woman infected with rabies in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, severely cut her neck and hand veins and died while receiving treatment at the district hospital.

A 45‑year‑old woman, later identified as rabies‑positive, was brought to the district hospital in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, after sustaining serious self‑inflicted injuries. Hospital staff learned of her rabies infection only after she arrived for emergency care.

The patient had cut the veins in her neck and hand, causing massive bleeding. Despite immediate medical intervention to control the hemorrhage, her condition deteriorated rapidly and she was pronounced dead while under treatment.

Health officials highlighted the case as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by untreated rabies and the need for timely post‑exposure prophylaxis. The incident has prompted local authorities to reinforce public awareness campaigns about rabies prevention and mental‑health support in the region.
