PVR INOX Reveals Rs 10-11 Cr Cost of IMAX Auditorium, Says Hindi, Tamil, Telugu Films Can Spur Expansion

PVR INOX’s Sanjeev Kumar Bijli has highlighted the steep capital requirement for setting up an IMAX auditorium in India, citing a cost of Rs 10-11 crore per venue. The figure, he said, explains why the country has comparatively few IMAX screens. "The high investment is a major hurdle," Bijli added.\n\nHe also pointed out that a growing slate of Hindi, Tamil and Telugu releases could provide the necessary audience base to justify additional IMAX installations. "Content in these languages can drive demand," he said.\n\nThe comment comes as Indian cinema chains look to upgrade their offerings to compete with global standards. While IMAX has a premium brand appeal, the financial barrier remains a significant challenge for widespread adoption across the country.
