Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iranian official Mohammad Pezeshkian that Moscow is prepared to take any step necessary to bring the war in Ukraine to an end. The remarks were made during a recent dialogue between the two leaders, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between Moscow and Tehran.
Since Russia launched its offensive in Ukraine in February 2022, diplomatic and military contacts between the two countries have deepened. Iran has supplied various types of drones and other equipment, while Russia has offered technical assistance and coordination, creating a mutual reliance.
Analysts say the statement reflects Russia's increasing dependence on Iranian support as it faces heightened international isolation. It may also indicate Moscow's willingness to explore diplomatic avenues that could lead to a resolution of the conflict.
The exchange highlights how the two nations are aligning their foreign‑policy goals, with Tehran seeking greater influence in the region and Russia looking for partners to offset Western sanctions.
