Punjab's Vigilance Bureau arrested a Patiala patwari after catching him receiving a cash bribe of Rs 30,000 for tampering with land records.
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau conducted a surprise operation in Patiala and apprehended a government patwari who was caught accepting a cash bribe of Rs 30,000. The official was found with the money in his possession during the raid, which was aimed at probing corruption in land‑record management.
According to the bureau, the patwari offered to manipulate land‑record entries in exchange for the payment, a practice that undermines property rights and public trust. The cash was handed over openly, prompting the officers to seize it and place the patwari under arrest.
The case has been registered under the Punjab Prevention of Corruption Act, and the patwari has been suspended from service pending a formal trial. Authorities said the evidence collected, including the seized cash and transaction records, will be presented to the court.
State officials highlighted the incident as part of a broader anti‑corruption drive targeting low‑level officials who exploit their positions. The Vigilance Bureau reiterated its commitment to curbing bribery and ensuring transparency in land‑related services.
