The Punjab Veterinary University announced a new assistance program aimed at helping pig farmers in Ludhiana, offering technical guidance and financial support.
The Punjab Veterinary University has introduced a dedicated assistance scheme for pig farmers operating in and around Ludhiana. The programme is designed to provide farmers with expert veterinary advice, training on best husbandry practices, and access to subsidised feed and health inputs.
University officials said the initiative will also facilitate low‑interest credit through tie‑ups with local banks, helping farmers expand their herds without bearing excessive financial risk.
The university plans to conduct a series of on‑farm workshops and demonstration plots over the next six months, targeting both existing pig rearers and newcomers interested in entering the sector. By strengthening the pig‑rearing value chain, the university hopes to boost rural incomes and improve meat quality standards in Punjab.
