The Punjab government announced a new guaranteed pension scheme for state employees, while retaining a mandatory 10% employee contribution.
Punjab's administration unveiled a guaranteed pension programme aimed at providing a fixed retirement benefit to its salaried workforce. Under the plan, the government will shoulder the bulk of the pension liability, ensuring that retirees receive a predetermined monthly amount.
Despite the added security, the scheme does not eliminate employee contributions; workers will continue to set aside 10% of their salaries toward the pension fund. This contribution rate mirrors the existing model for other state‑run retirement schemes.
The move is part of the state's broader effort to modernise social security and address concerns over pension adequacy among government staff. Officials said the guaranteed component will be funded through a combination of state budget allocations and returns on the pension corpus.
