The NITI Aayog released a report evaluating Indian states on electric‑vehicle (EV) adoption across private, commercial and government segments. Punjab secured 49 points in the private‑EV registration category, ranking 16th among all states.
In the commercial‑EV segment, the state managed only 15 points, indicating slower uptake among businesses. Government‑driven EV initiatives earned Punjab 67 points, reflecting relatively stronger policy support.
The report highlights that despite decent scores in government efforts, Punjab lags behind leading states in private and commercial EV uptake, underscoring the need for enhanced incentives and infrastructure to boost broader adoption.
Analysts suggest that improving charging infrastructure and offering subsidies could help improve Punjab’s standing in future assessments.
