Punjab police have secured the deportation of A‑category gangster Gurvinder, known as Afridi, from Ethiopia, marking a major international breakthrough.
Punjab police announced that the notorious gangster Gurvinder, alias Afridi, has been handed over by Ethiopian authorities and flown back to India. The suspect, classified as an A‑category criminal, was wanted for multiple serious offences, including organized crime and cross‑border smuggling.
The deportation follows months of coordinated intelligence work between Punjab’s Crime Branch and foreign law‑enforcement agencies. Officials said the operation underscores the state’s resolve to dismantle transnational criminal networks that operate from abroad.
Upon arrival, Gurvinder will be presented before a special court in Punjab, where investigations are already underway. The police have also launched raids in Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts to seize assets linked to the gangster’s network, signalling a broader crackdown on his associates.
