Punjab legislator Pargat Singh paid his respects at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, emphasizing that his visit was purely religious and not a political move.
Pargat Singh, a member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, arrived at the Harmandir Sahib complex in Amritsar on Thursday to seek blessings from the Sikh holy shrine. The MLA was seen entering the precincts of the Golden Temple, a site revered by millions of Sikhs worldwide, and offered prayers alongside devotees.
During the brief interaction with the media outside the temple, Singh clarified that his presence was motivated solely by personal faith. He stated, "Today is not a day for politics; I am here to pray and seek the Guru's blessings for the people of Punjab." The comment underscored his intent to keep the visit separate from any political agenda.
Local authorities confirmed that the visit proceeded without any disruption to regular worship activities. The Golden Temple management welcomed the legislator, noting that the shrine remains open to all visitors irrespective of their political affiliations.
The episode reflects a broader pattern of Indian politicians visiting religious sites to connect with constituents, though Singh explicitly distanced his trip from campaign considerations.
