Punjab Minor Arrested After Threatening Grocery Store Owner for 5 Million Rupee Bribe

Police in Punjab apprehended a minor who had demanded a 5 million rupee bribe from a grocery store owner and issued threats, citing technical inputs and human intelligence.
The Punjab police have taken a minor into custody after a grocery store owner reported that the youngster demanded a sum of 5 million rupees as a protection payment and threatened violence if the money was not delivered. The demand, described as a rangdari scheme, was made over a phone call, prompting the shopkeeper to approach law‑enforcement.
According to officials, the investigation combined electronic tracing, call‑record analysis and on‑ground human intelligence to locate the suspect. The minor was identified through these technical inputs and subsequently arrested without incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that the motive was purely monetary, with the minor seeking a large cash payoff. Authorities are treating the case under sections of the Indian Penal Code that address extortion and intimidation, and the suspect will be presented before a juvenile court.
A police spokesperson emphasized that threats against business owners will be met with swift action, and urged merchants to report any such coercion to the authorities promptly.
