Punjab’s government will commence rice procurement today, with 1,887 mandiyas prepared to meet a target of 18 million tonnes, and 500,000 baradanas ready for purchase.

Punjab’s Ministry of Agriculture has announced the launch of a large‑scale rice procurement drive starting today.

A total of 1,887 mandiyas have been set up across the state to facilitate the collection and sale of farmers’ produce.

The government aims to purchase 18 million tonnes of rice, a target that reflects the state’s commitment to supporting the agrarian community.

In addition to the mandiyas, 500,000 baradanas (units of 100 kilograms) are already available for purchase, ensuring farmers can sell their produce promptly.

The initiative is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to stabilize rice prices and provide a guaranteed market for local farmers.
