Punjab's state transport buses continue to use paper tickets and manual logs, highlighting a lag in digital adoption despite nationwide digital initiatives.

The Times of India reported that Punjab’s state transport department still relies on paper tickets and manual record‑keeping for its government buses, a practice that contrasts with the digital transformation seen across other states.

According to the report, drivers and conductors use paper tickets for passengers, and maintenance logs are kept in physical ledgers, making it difficult to track usage and performance in real time.

The lack of digital tools hampers efficiency and transparency, especially as the central government pushes for e‑ticketing, online booking and data analytics under the Digital India campaign.

Officials from the Punjab transport ministry have acknowledged the gap and said they are exploring digital solutions, but no concrete timeline has been announced yet.
