The Punjab administration has disclosed a massive GST evasion scheme worth approximately Rs 425 crore uncovered during a probe of a transport company's transactions.

Punjab authorities announced today that a detailed audit of a transport company's financial records revealed a GST evasion amounting to roughly Rs 425 crore. The investigation, initiated as part of a broader crackdown on tax non‑compliance, uncovered falsified invoices and concealed sales that allowed the firm to evade the Goods and Services Tax.

Officials from the state's tax department said the fraud was detected through cross‑checking of GST returns against the company's declared turnover. The discrepancy prompted a forensic examination, which confirmed the scale of the illicit gains.

The government has launched legal proceedings against the company and its senior officials, and a recovery team has been tasked with seizing assets to recoup the lost revenue. The case underscores the administration's intensified focus on curbing tax fraud in the state.

Further details, including the name of the transport firm and any arrests, are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
