The Punjab chapter of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha announced a Rail Roko protest today, setting up dharnas on railway tracks in six districts as police and railway officials remain on high alert.

The Punjab chapter of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (Farmer‑Labour Front) declared a "Rail Roko" movement on Tuesday, aiming to halt train services as a pressure tactic. Activists have established dharnas on railway lines in six districts of the state, blocking the movement of both passenger and freight trains.

The protest comes amid ongoing agrarian unrest in the region, with the front demanding greater concessions on farm policies and better implementation of existing schemes. Organisers have urged farmers and labourers to join the sit‑ins, emphasizing that the rail blockade will remain until their grievances are addressed.

Police and railway authorities have been placed on high alert, deploying additional personnel to monitor the affected routes and to prevent any escalation. While no major disruptions have been reported yet, officials have warned of possible delays and have urged commuters to seek alternative transport.

The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha has not specified a timeline for ending the protest, stating that the action will continue until a satisfactory dialogue with the government is achieved.
