The Punjab election commissioner has called on 18‑year‑olds and those turning 18 by 1 October 2026 to register to appear on the voter list.
The Punjab election commissioner has urged young voters to complete their registration before the 2026 voter list is finalized. The call targets citizens who are already 18 or will reach the age of majority by 1 October 2026, the deadline for inclusion in the upcoming electoral roll.
During a press briefing, the commissioner highlighted the importance of early registration, noting that many eligible voters remain unlisted due to late or incomplete paperwork. "We want every eligible citizen to have a voice in the next elections," he said.
The announcement comes as part of a broader state effort to increase voter participation ahead of the 2027 general elections. Officials expect a significant rise in the number of new voters if the campaign gains traction among the youth.
The commissioner also reminded citizens that the voter list will be published after 1 October 2026, and that those who register after that date will have to wait until the next electoral cycle to vote.
