Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a fleet of 100 minibuses aimed at improving connectivity between Punjab's villages and urban centres.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann officially flagged off a fleet of one hundred minibuses designed to bridge the transport gap between rural villages and nearby cities. The launch, held in the state capital, marks a key step in the government's effort to enhance mobility for residents of remote areas.

The minibuses will run on pre‑determined routes that connect clusters of villages with larger towns, offering a regular and affordable public‑transport option. Officials said the service is expected to cut travel times and provide easier access to markets, schools and hospitals.

State authorities indicated that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to stimulate local economies and reduce reliance on private vehicles. Funding for the fleet comes from the state budget, and the government plans to monitor ridership and expand the network based on demand.

Transport officials emphasized that the minibuses meet safety standards and will be staffed by trained drivers. The rollout will be phased, with the first batch already operational in select districts.

The program reflects Punjab's commitment to modernising its public‑transport infrastructure and addressing long‑standing connectivity challenges faced by rural populations.
