Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said a 3% increase in dearness allowance will be granted to about 8 lakh state government staff starting Diwali.

Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Thursday that the state will raise the dearness allowance (DA) for its government workforce by three percent. The hike will apply to roughly eight lakh employees across various departments and is slated to take effect from the Diwali festival period.

The decision comes as part of the state government's effort to cushion employees against rising living costs. By adjusting the DA, the administration aims to provide a modest boost to take‑home pay without altering the basic salary structure.

Officials said the increase will be reflected in the upcoming payroll cycle and will be funded through the state budget allocation for employee remuneration. The move has been welcomed by employee unions, which had earlier called for a revision of the allowance.

No further details on the exact implementation date or any additional benefits were disclosed at the press briefing.
