Punjab Assembly Speaker suspended Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira for the entire session after he used unparliamentary language during proceedings.
The Punjab Legislative Assembly, in its second day of sitting, saw a significant development when Speaker Sukhbir Singh Badal suspended Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira for the entire session.
Khaira was accused of using unparliamentary language during a debate on a government bill. The Speaker cited the Assembly’s rules of conduct and warned that such remarks could undermine the dignity of the house.
Following the suspension, Congress members staged a protest outside the assembly premises, demanding the removal of the punitive measure and calling for a review of the Speaker’s decision.
The move is expected to affect the flow of the assembly’s agenda, as Khaira’s party will be unable to participate in the remaining proceedings until the suspension is lifted or a replacement is appointed.
