Bus and taxi operations in Imphal have been reinstated after a prolonged shutdown caused by recent unrest on the national highways.
The Manipur transport department announced on Tuesday that regular bus and taxi services have resumed in Imphal after a suspension that lasted several weeks. The halt was initially imposed following violent clashes on the city's national highways, which disrupted traffic flow and raised safety concerns for commuters.
Authorities cleared the affected highway sections, deployed additional police personnel, and restored order, enabling the safe re‑entry of public vehicles onto the roads. The department also urged passengers to remain vigilant and follow traffic directives as normal operations continue.
Local commuters welcomed the decision, noting that the restoration of transport will ease daily travel challenges and support economic activity in the capital. The transport department confirmed that services will operate on their usual schedules, with monitoring in place to prevent any recurrence of violence.
The resumption comes as part of broader efforts by the state government to stabilize the region after recent disturbances, aiming to restore normalcy for residents and visitors alike.
