Activists set fire to a copy of the Manusmriti at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh headquarters in Delhi, staging a symbolic protest against the ancient text.
Delhi police reported that a group of demonstrators gathered outside the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters on Lodhi Road on Saturday and ignited a copy of the Manusmriti, the ancient Hindu law code. The act was presented as a symbolic rejection of the text, which many civil‑society groups consider regressive.
According to eyewitnesses, the protesters held placards demanding the removal of Manusmriti from public discourse and called for progressive reforms. The police formed a cordon around the site, and the incident concluded without any reported injuries or arrests.
Authorities are reviewing the incident to determine whether any legal provisions, such as those related to public order or the protection of religious sentiments, have been breached. The RSS, a right‑wing organization, has not yet issued an official statement on the protest.
