A prisoner at Sheopur district jail in Madhya Pradesh escaped on Tuesday afternoon by scaling a 22‑foot high wall. The inmate reportedly used a makeshift rope crafted from several prison‑issued sheets to climb over the barrier.
According to jail officials, the sheets were tied together to form a sturdy cord, which the detainee secured to the wall and used to pull himself up. The wall, part of the jail's outer perimeter, stands at approximately 22 feet (about 6.7 metres) and is not routinely equipped with climbing aids.
The escape triggered immediate alarm among the prison staff, who initiated a lockdown and notified local police. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the inmate accessed the sheets and to review security protocols.
No injuries were reported, and the escaped prisoner’s identity has not been disclosed pending further inquiry.
