Former BJP district president Prasann Chand Mehta, who began his public life with ABVP and rose through the party’s youth wing to become state vice‑president, has been elected mayor of Jodhpur.
Prasann Chand Mehta has been sworn in as the mayor of Jodhpur Municipal Corporation after securing the mayoral seat in the recent municipal elections. His victory marks the culmination of a long‑standing association with the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajasthan.
Mehta entered public service through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) before joining the BJP’s youth front. Over a five‑decade organisational career he held posts ranging from district president of the BJP Yuva Morcha to state vice‑president, and twice served as the party’s district president in Jodhpur.
The new mayor’s extensive experience is expected to shape the city’s development agenda, with a focus on urban infrastructure, sanitation and heritage conservation. Party officials say his deep roots in the region and familiarity with local issues will aid the municipal body’s governance.
