Power Cuts Plague Goa Businesses, GCCI Urges Immediate Government Action

Frequent electricity outages are disrupting commercial operations across Goa, prompting the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry to call for swift government intervention.
Power supply interruptions have become a regular feature in Goa's industrial and commercial zones, causing factories, retail outlets and service providers to halt production and face revenue losses. The outages, reported to occur several times a week, have left many businesses operating on backup generators, raising operational costs.
The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) issued a formal appeal to the state government, urging an immediate review of the power grid's reliability and the deployment of additional resources to stabilise supply. In its statement, the chamber warned that prolonged disruptions could deter investment and affect the state's economic growth.
State officials have acknowledged the complaints and indicated that they are examining the root causes, which include aging infrastructure and rising demand. GCCI has asked for a rapid remedial plan, including upgrades to transmission lines and priority restoration for critical commercial users.
