The Indian Postal Department has introduced Rs 10 waterproof envelopes, dedicated counters and a 10% postage discount to ensure Raksha Bandhan gifts reach safely despite monsoon showers in Bihar.
New Delhi, Aug 25 2026 – Anticipating heavy monsoon rains ahead of Raksha Bandhan, the Department of Posts in Bihar has launched a special service to safeguard the traditional sister‑brother exchange. Postal outlets across the state are now offering Rs 10 waterproof envelopes designed to protect rakhi gifts and sweets from moisture.
In addition to the protective packaging, the department has set up dedicated counters for Rakhi dispatches and introduced on‑site packaging facilities to streamline the process. Customers can also benefit from a 10% reduction in standard postage rates for Rakhi‑related parcels.
The initiative aims to maintain the cultural continuity of the festival while addressing logistical challenges posed by the seasonal downpour. Postal officials said the measures will be in effect from the first week of August until the end of the Raksha Bandhan celebrations.
Stakeholders, including local retailers and families, have welcomed the move, noting that it reduces the risk of damaged gifts and ensures timely delivery despite unpredictable weather.
