Porvorim’s Road Safety Remains Poor After New Flyover Completion

A recent assessment shows that despite the opening of a new overhead bridge, Porvorim’s road safety rating stays in the red.
The Goa municipal authorities opened an overhead bridge in Porvorim earlier this year, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve safety for commuters. However, a fresh road‑safety audit released by the state traffic police indicates that the town’s safety score remains in the red zone, signalling a high risk of accidents.
Officials said the audit examined factors such as pedestrian crossings, signage, lighting and accident history over the past six months. While the flyover has reduced bottlenecks at key junctions, the overall safety rating has not improved, prompting calls for additional measures.
The traffic department has urged local officials to address gaps in road markings, install more speed‑calming devices and enhance enforcement of traffic rules. A follow‑up review is scheduled for next quarter to gauge the impact of any remedial actions.
