Tripura police officials carried out a routine vehicle verification operation in the town of Udaipur on Wednesday. During the check, officers discovered a cache of 200 rounds of live ammunition concealed in the vehicle. The ammunition was seized on the spot and handed over to the forensic department for further analysis.
The individual driving the vehicle was taken into custody for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, offences punishable under the Indian Arms Act. He was produced before the local magistrate, and the case has been forwarded to the district crime branch for investigation.
Police spokesperson said the seizure highlights ongoing efforts to curb the illicit trade of weapons in the state. No injuries were reported, and the incident is being treated as a criminal matter rather than a security threat.
