Punjab police have filed a fraud case against an individual accused of cheating the owners of Sunam's Wicket Zone Cricket Academy of about Rs 17 lakh.
Punjab police on Tuesday lodged a criminal complaint against a person alleged to have defrauded the proprietors of the Wicket Zone Cricket Academy in Sunam. The investigation claims the accused obtained roughly Rs 17 lakh from the academy owners through false promises of affiliation with the Punjab Cricket Association.
According to the police report, the fraud involved misrepresenting the academy's eligibility for official recognition, leading the owners to part with the money in expectation of benefits. The authorities have registered the case under sections related to cheating and fraud, and the suspect is now being pursued for interrogation.
The Wicket Zone Cricket Academy, which trains young cricketers in the Malwa region, has not commented publicly on the incident. Police have urged other sports institutions to verify any claims of official endorsement before making financial commitments.
