Police kill Rajasansi gun‑case suspect in encounter, officer injured

On the night of September 11, police in Rajasansi fatally shot the suspect accused of killing ASI Jaswant Singh, while a constable was wounded during the operation.
Rajasansi, Uttar Pradesh, September 11 (Reuters) – Police forces engaged a suspect identified as Karan, accused of shooting Assistant Sub‑Inspector Jaswant Singh, in a lethal encounter on the outskirts of the town. The operation began after intelligence inputs indicated the accused was holed up in a residential area and had opened fire on the arriving officers.
According to the district police, Karan fired several rounds as officers attempted to surround the hideout. In response, the police returned fire, striking the suspect and causing his death on the spot. During the clash, a police constable sustained gun‑shot injuries and was immediately shifted to the nearest hospital for treatment.
A senior police spokesperson confirmed that the encounter was justified, stating that the suspect resisted arrest and posed an imminent threat to law‑enforcement personnel. The spokesperson added that a forensic team will examine the scene and that a formal inquiry will be launched to review the circumstances of the encounter.
